5 Card Draw Rules and Strategy

Badugi Rakeback at Carbon Poker5 Card Draw is often the first poker variant learned by most players, and it was once quite popular for both real money and tournament poker play. These days it is considered by many live players to be an extinct game; they’re reminded of watching old black and white westerns on television. Online players, however, have a different view of this, as when poker was first coming out online, 5 Card Draw was added to the software to give home game players a game they were already familiar with. The game has stuck and even made small amounts of progress over the years. We see that even some bigger online poker sites that previously did not offer 5 Card Draw have made the addition.

How to Play 5 Card Draw

In the event that you’re not familiar with 5 Card Draw, here are the basic rules:

5 Card Draw uses a small and big blind, which rotate around the table. These are forced bets made by two of the players before they have looked at their cards. After blinds have been posted, each player is dealt five cards, and a round of betting takes place, starting with the player to the left of the big blind. If more than one player remains in the hand after the first betting round, a draw takes place. During the draw, a player may discard ANY number of their cards and have them replaced with new ones. Once the draw is complete, a final betting round takes place. If more than one player remains in the hand after this final betting round, the players turn up their hands (this is called a showdown), and the player with the best five card poker hand wins the pot.

One thing to note is that in some home games, one of the House Rules is that players can only draw three cards, or can draw four cards if they have and show an ace. This rule does not apply to online play at Carbon Poker.
